At Maxxi Childcare, every decision we make starts with one question: “Is this best for the children?” That principle guides not only our care and curriculum but also how we choose the toys and resources that fill our nursery spaces.
Prioritising Safety and Quality
We only select Early Years-approved toys that meet UK and EU safety standards (such as the BS EN 71 series). These standards ensure toys are:
- Free from choking hazards for young children
- Durable enough for active play
- Made using non-toxic, child-safe materials
When we choose plastic toys, we make sure they are made from safe plastics — free from BPA, PVC, phthalates, or other harmful chemicals. Safety is non-negotiable; children’s wellbeing always comes first.
Reducing Plastic, Encouraging Natural Play
We are also working to reduce the amount of plastic in our settings. Many of our new resources are made from:
- Sustainably sourced wood
- Natural fabrics like cotton and felt
- Recycled or recyclable materials
Natural materials don’t just help the planet — they also support sensory exploration and a deeper connection with the world around us. Wooden blocks, fabric dolls, and baskets of natural treasures invite open-ended play and creativity.
Supporting Learning Through Play
Every toy we choose is carefully considered for its educational value. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), play is the foundation for learning — so our toys are chosen to inspire:
- Imaginative play, through dolls, small-world figures, and role-play materials
- Physical development, through outdoor toys, balancing equipment, and building sets
- Cognitive growth, through puzzles, stacking toys, and sorting games
- Social and emotional development, through cooperative games and storytelling resources
We aim to create an environment that encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and joy in discovery.
A Responsible Approach
Choosing sustainable and ethical resources is part of our commitment to environmental responsibility. We want children to grow up understanding how small choices — like choosing wooden toys over plastic ones — can make a big difference.
By working with trusted suppliers of Early Years-approved resources, we’re ensuring that every toy supports our children’s development, safety, and our shared future.
